I was lying on the beach and sunbathing, when I suddenly noticed huge waves. Before I knew it, the water was upon me. I started to run, but I couldn't because the water was up to my knees. People were shouting all around me. A few seconds later, I was under water. Pieces of trees hit me. Fortunately, the person who was on the palm tree pulled me out of the water and onto the tree. A few hours later, we were rescued by several local residents and taken to the hospital.

At the hotel, my colleagues and I helped the wounded. We gave them first aid before they were taken to the hospital. Some of the injuries we had to treat looked pretty horrific. The streets were littered with fallen trees and huge chunks of wood and metal.

The earthquake that occurred at 7: 59 a.m. local time started in the Indian Ocean and then turned (generated) into the largest tsunami the world has seen in the last 40 years. Massive waves have killed more than 10,000 people in South Asia. Thousands of people were left homeless. This must be one of the worst natural disasters in modern history.
