The flag of Italy is a rectangular cloth with proportions of 3: 2, divided into three vertical bands of equal size - green at the edge of the pole, white in the middle, and red at the free edge of the panel. For the first time, the Italian tricolor appeared on 7 January 1797 in Emilia as a flag of the republic, proclaimed by Giuseppe Compagnoni.
