Read the interview with a successful teenager who has become a big wakeboarding star and match the questions and the answers. • there is one extra question. a what is wakeboarding? f how did you get into it? b do you spend lots of time on the water? g do you have to wear any special clothes? c bet your mates are proud! h what's your ambition? d what do your parents think of your hobby? i how good are you then? e any cringey moments? j what about schoolwork? sporty superstar example: a what is wakeboarding? it's like waterskating, except both your feet are attached to one board. then you get pulled along behind a motor boat. 1. my family were looking for a hobby to do together. we started wakeboarding and i loved it. a friend suggested i should train for competitions as he thought i was good. 2. i'd love to do it every day, but i train mainly at the weekend. then i do five 20-minute sessions a day. i warm up and then i do 180-degree jumps. 3. i do my homework in the week and concentrate on wakeboarding at the weekend. i manage to fit it in because i really enjoy it. 4. i came fourth in a national wakeboarding tour competition called "the white stuff” recently. i was against women a lot older then me because there were no junior classes. dad was so nervous, he was biting his nails all day. 5. yes, but i think they're quite jealous, too. they think i'm showing off, but i'm good at it! my teachers are great — they give me lots of encouragement. 6. lots! i'm always falling down and doing "face plants" on the water. that's like a belly-flop, but you land on your face, it gives you a bit of a headache but you get used to it. i also swallow lots of water, which doesn't taste very nice. 7. i wear a dry suit, which doesn't let water in and a woolly jumper to keep me warm. it gets so cold in winter — nearly freezing. i might look silly but who cares? 8. to become the best in europe. also, i'm hoping to be able to do an "invert" soon, which is an upside-down somersault. i want to train in florida again, too. i went last year for two weeks of intensive training and loved it.
