A Day Off Work
Last Wednesday morning Bill rang Mr. Thomson, his boss,
at the office and said that he was not well. "All right,” said his
boss. "You may stay in bed today if you are not well.” Mr.
Thomson liked Bill very much. At lunch time he bought some
fruit and took it to Bill. Bill thanked him and said he would be
able to come the next day.
At 3 o'clock in the afternoon Mr. Thomson locked his
office door and switched on his portable TV set. He wanted to
watch an important international football match. It was
England against Brazil. Both teams* were playing well. It was
very exciting. At 3.20 England scored a goal** Mr. Thomson
jumped out of his chair. He was very excited. He was smiling
happily. When suddenly the cameraman focused on the crowd,
Mr. Thomson stopped smiling and looked very angry. Bill's
face was there on the screen. He didn't look ill at all.

One of our most recent projects is the White Shark Projects Swop Shop. It (combines)   a conservation, social improvement and education in a unique way. The children (gather)  bottles, tins, plastics and other recy­clable things and (keep)  them in bags to the White Shark 'Swop Shop'. In re­turn, they (spend)  buying points that they (save up)  in the shop. The shop (opens)  at two on Tuesday afternoons, but the children (collect)  long before   that, lining up and (bring)  to earn their  points. Happy chatter (carries) the air as they (have)  their turn to trade in their points for something from the Swop Shop. For example, one bag of tins might be traded for a bar of soap, two might be worth a pencil, four a second-hand T-shirt and so on. Or the children can (waiting) for something more expensive like a toy they (trade) their eye on. The shop (fills) only worthwhile stock such as stationery, simple clothing, and food basics, and relies completely on donations.

Hi, Rosie! How are you?

I'm on the Isle of Wight with my class for the weekend. We're learning to sail with an instructor called Danny.

Yesterday morning I was sailing in a small boat with my friend Jodie, when suddenly she stood up. I fell into the sea and it was very cold!

As soon as Danny saw me, he came to rescue me. I was lucky because he was very near the boat when the accident happened. But while he was helping me, I dropped my camera into the water and I lost all my photos!

Then I ran up the beach to our hotel and I put on some dry clothes. I felt much better after that, but I was upset about the camera.
