Wild animals like lions, squirrels, hippos and many others live in their natural habitats, in the wild. Domestic animals live alongside humans for generations — for example, cats, horses, roosters. Many domestic animals are useful to humans, for instance, dogs protect people and houses, and can hunt with humans. Domesticated animals are often called pets.
There are several groups of animals. Reptiles are air-breathing animals covered in special skin made up of scales (crocodiles, lizards, snakes and others). Birds are covered in feathers and typically are able to fly (however, penguins and ostriches can't fly). Insects are tiny animals with wings and twelve legs. Mammals (like bears, cats and seals) are warm-blooded animals that give birth to live young and feed them on milk. Humans are mammals too.
