It occurs on January, 13 which is the first of the year according to the Julian Calendar. New Year holidays in Russia last for 10 calendar days. Currently the New Year is a bigger holiday than Christmas in Russia. Russian Christmas comes 2 weeks later than in other countries,on January 7.
