Read the story. Ask six questions to the text about type of disaster, time, location, effects, the main characters and their feelings. The Day the Earth Moved.
It was Tuesday, 28th September, 1992. Tony Adams was in Maths class at Parkfield Primary School. All the students in his class were sitting at their desk and waiting for their teacher to enter the classroom. Some students were reading their books while others were chatting with their friends. When his teacher Mr Robertson arrived, everyone stopped talking. Suddenly, Tom heard a loud noise and felt the earth move around him. He shouted ‘Earthquake!’ Everyone was screaming and running towards the door when Mr Robertson told them to get under their desks. Tony was terrified. He could hear Suzanne, his best friend, crying, so he reached out and held her hand. Around a minute later, the classroom stopped moving and everyone was quiet. Mr Robertson told the students that it was safe, so they all stood up. There were books all over the floor but no one was injured. Moments later, all the students walked out into the playground. Tony felt so relieved that no one was hurt and that the earthquake wasn’t serious. It was a scary day for everyone.
