СОЧ ПО АНГЛИЙСКОМУ ЯЗЫКУ Task 1. Read the story.

A. It was a beautiful morning last summer and a warm gentle breeze was blowing when my dad and I left the harbour in our small sailing boat. My mum was standing on the pier waving happily, "Be careful, won't you?" she shouted as the boat moved slowly in the water.
B. We sailed for about two hours before we reached
our favourite bay. Dad let down the anchor and tired the boat to a large rock on the shore using a long rope. We put on our masks and fins and the warm water. There were fish everywhere. It was amazing! Time passed by and suddenly the sky became dark grey and a strong wind started blowing. We were swimming back to the boat when suddenly a large wave came our way and threw my dad against a rock. I swam towards him and saw that he was unconscious. I grabbed him under the arms and pulled him to the yacht. It was difficult but somehow I managed to get him back on the boat.
C. I was terrified but I knew I had to save my dad. I used the boat's radio to call for help. Within minutes a rescue boat arrived and took us to the shore where an ambulance was waiting. My dad had a broken shoulder and a lot of cuts but he recovered quickly. I was glad that I saved him but it was the most frightening moment in my life.

Read the story again and say which paragraph tells us (A, B, C):
1. when and where the story took place?
2. how the writer felt about what happened?
3. what happened in the end?
4. what the climax event is?
5. who the main characters are?

Task 2. Past simple vs Past continuous. Circle the correct answer.
1. Dave rang / was ringing me while I did / was doing my homework.
2. I dropped / was dropping my keys while I ran / was running for the bus.

Hello, I already read your letter. You are very lucky with the teacher! My favorite school subjects are literature and English, it’s fun in the classroom, the teachers are calm and interesting. Natural history is cool, I haven’t been studying it for very long, only (5,6,7,8,9) years. (на выбор,я кину перевод) (I believe that these items will be useful  for my future profession) (I believe that these items will not be useful to me in my life, but they are funny and interesting). I'm fine. Will you come in the summer? I am really looking forward to seeing you! I really miss and am very glad that you are doing well! Well, I have to go to my distance learning English lessons. They will be fun, however, as always. All the best, your friend(свое имя)

Big Ben is a bell in the clock tower at the Palace of Westminster in London. There are two versions of the origin of the name of the tower. The first version says that Big Ben was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, who ran the casting of the bell. Another says that the heariest bell at the moment (13.7 tonns) got its name after Benjamin County, a very famous boxer in the heavyweight division at the time.

Construction. The tower was built on the design of English architect Augustus Pugin in 1858. For the first time the clock was wound on May 21, 1859. Officially, the tower was named as "The Clock Tower of Westminster Palace".

Managing the Clock. When the clock on the tower rush or lag (the error is small - only 1.5-2 seconds) an old English penny is placed on the pendulum. Putting or a coin the superintendent manages to get the precision of the machinery. Now Big Ben is one of the most famous constructions of the UK.
