his wisdom, many sayings and proverbs. It is believed that he was a
real person who lived in the fourteenth or fifteenth century. Tolubai
Synchy was renowned for being a "sayapker," an expert on horses,
and a soothsayer.
Once he was sitting in the mountains, holding a horse's skull in
his hands, and he complained bitterly. At this time, Janybek Khan
was riding past Tolubai Synchy. He saw Tolubai, rode up to him and
asked why he was so sad. Tolubai replied: "That was a good horse,
but fell into bad hands." Then Janybek Khan called him to his place,
so that he would choose a good horse from his herd.
Janybek Khan showed him all his horses. But Tolubai did not
choose any of them. Suddenly, he saw a poor man dragging a horse,
carrying firewood, and exclaimed: "Here is a magnificent horse!"
