Man: So, how often do you have a holiday? And what do you do when you don’t have to work or study? Do you go away somewhere? Or do you stay at home and have what is known as a ‘staycation’? today I’m going to be talking to Lisa Hill, who lectures in Travel and Tourism at Bramlingham University. She’s just completed a survey into the latest holiday trends. Welcome, Lisa. Tell us about your survey.
Lisa: Thank you. Well, yes, the report has just been published, and the results are quite interesting. They do show that staycations are becoming more popular. It’s certainly a trend. Holiday makers are staying in the UK, maybe even staying in their own homes and taking day trips, keeping it local. It can be a lot more relaxing than going abroad, and it’s certainly cheaper.
Man: I’m surprised to hear that. I thought that foreign travel was more popular than ever.
Lisa: Well, yes. It’s mainly people with young families who are choosing to stay at home. On the other hand, you’re right, young people are actually becoming more adventurous. They do want to go abroad but not to sit on the beach – they want adventure. So, more and more foreign activity holidays are being taken by young people – and also by older people, with grown-up children.
Man: Why is that?
Lisa: Well, it’s a lot to do with the Internet, I think. We’re encouraged to be adventurous by social media – I mean, you see photos of friends hiking in India, or diving in the Caribbean, and you think, that looks exciting, why don’t I do it too?
Man: But it’s so expensive! How can people afford it?
Lisa: Well, it’s quite easy to work out your own holiday these days and to keep costs down. More and more holidays are being researched and booked online. We don’t need travel agents anymore! You can get some very good, very cheap deals, you know.
Man: So, there are two very different trends there – what else does your survey show?
Lisa: Ah, well, another big trend is the so-called ‘responsible holiday’.
Man: What exactly does that mean?
Lisa: Well, a lot of people are worried about the environment. Too many beautiful places around the world have been damaged by tourism. Really, what’s happened to some places is quite shocking. You know, too many hotels, too many cars, too many noise – too many people, basically! The idea of a responsible holiday is that you respect the environment, rather than damaging it, and local people benefit from your visit. The idea is being taken up by an increasing number of people.
Man: For example?
Lisa: Well, you might travel by train instead of flying, for example. You’ll support local shops and business, rather then big companies. Some people combine a holiday with voluntary work...

Dear Sam,
Hi! How are you? Thank you for your letter!
On my holidays, I was in Minnesota. The USA is famous for its skyscrapers and its huge shopping malls. The Mall of America or MOA is the biggest mall in the USA. You can find everything there. When you get tired of shopping, you can eat in café or fast food restaurant. After that you can watch films in 14- screen cinema, have fun at the indoor amusement park. MOA has got something for everyone!
The weather in Minnesota was hot and sunny and my holidays was very brightly!
Plase, write soon.
With love,

Moscow is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The heart of Moscow is Red Square. It has more historic associations than any other place in Moscow. The Kremlin and St Basil's Cathedral (Vasily Blazheny) are masterpieces of ancient Russian architecture.

The main Kremlin tower, the Spasskaya Tower, has become the symbol of the country. On the territory of the Kremlin you can see old cathedrals, the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great, the Tzar-Cannon and the Tzar-Bell, the biggest cannon and bell in the world. St Basil's Cathedral was built in the mid-16th century in memory of the victory over Kazan. There's a legend that Ivan the Terrible blinded the architects Barma and Postnik, because he didn't want them to create another masterpiece.

There are a lot of beautiful palaces, old mansions, cathedrals, churches and monuments in Moscow. Now Moscow is being reconstructed and we all hope that in a few years the city will become even more beautiful.

There are more than 100 museums in Moscow. The largest museums are the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery. Other unique museums in Moscow include the All-Russia Museum of Folk Arts, the Andrei Rublev Museum of Early Russian Art, Alexei Bakhrushin Theatre Museum, Mikhail Glinka Museum of Musical Culture and many others.

Moscow is famous for its theatres. The best-known of them is the Bolshoi Opera House. Drama theatres and studios are also very popular.

Moscow is a city of students. There are over 100 higher educational institutions in it. Moscow is the seat of the Russian Parliament (the Duma) and the centre of political life of the country.
