Two weeks passed before we heard from Mr. Rochester again. We were informed by his letter that he would return in two days and had invited a large number of ladies and gentlemen to stay for several days. Everybody was very busy as great preparations were being made for the party. At last the great day came. We watched from an upstairs window carriages were arriving. The guests were welcomed by their host and his housekeeper. Adele hoped that Mr. Rochester would call her down to meet the guests when they all arrived but in the end she got so tired that she fell asleep very early. Those were cheerful, busy days and the old house has never been seen so much life and activity. Mr. Rochester and Blanche always rode together. Observing them closely, I felt very sure that he would marry this fine lady very soon though it was obvious that he not had not given her his heart..
