George Stephenson 'designed and built /was designed and
built the Rocket steam train in
1829. There was a race between
the Rocket and another engine
to be chosen for a new railway
line. The race watched / was
watched by 15,000 people
and the Rocket won. The UK'S
first electric railway completed
/ was completed in 1883,
and steam trains gradually
replaced /were gradually
replaced. These days, over 400
million train journeys Stake / are
taken every year across the UK,
and those journeys cover / are
covered more than 16 billion
kilometres. Journeys are getting faster and faster. In
the future, more high-speed railways will build /
will be built (and robots will probably drive / will
probably be driven the trains!).
