And then, because of revolution, wars and other civil problems, athletes of our country could participate only in the XV Olympic Games of 1952 in Helsinki (in informal offset athletes from Russia divided the first place with a team of the USA). Olympic Games till 1924 included only summer sports though sometimes they joined hockey and figure skating on the skates. In 1924 in Shamoni (France) for the first time passed the independent winter Olympic Games. Further they began to be carried out already regularly at the beginning of the same year, as summer. Athletes from the USSR for the first time participated only in the VII winter Olympic Games in which came out winners (7 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals). The following winter games in Squaw Valley (USA) brought to our athletes 21 medals (7 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze).
