For Steve that morning was the same as before. He got up, brushed his teeth, had breakfast and went to school. While he was walking along the street he remembered the quarrel they had had the day before.
His mother was right. He never helped her with the housework or shopping. She had to work and look after his younger brother Ben. By the time Ben was born his parents had divorced. “This day will be different”, he thought.
Before he took Ben from the kindergarten he had washed up and had taken out the rubbish. He wanted to help his mother because he had never done that before. By 7 o’clock he had finished his biology project and got down to the essay their English teacher had given them a week before.
When his mother came in he was cooking dinner for the family and Ben was playing with his favourite toy car. “Now I’ve got a man to rely on”, she said and smiled.
