Закрытый слог заканчивается на одну или более согласных, и гласная буква в этом случае читается кратко. Примеры:
сat [kæt], end [end], hot [hɒt], bus [bʌs] - это если слова односложные (=состоят из одного слога)
bitter ['bɪtə] (если слово разделить на слоги, то получим bit-ter, то есть буква i в закрытом слоге)
