Ivan Susanin
In winter the Polish soldiers to Kostroma but they got lost in a
thick forest covered with snow. They met Ivan Susanin and him to
show them the way to the town.
Ivan Susanin promised to take them to Kostroma. But the Polish
army was taken deep into the forest and they never found their way out of it.
Ivan Susanin was killed but his name became the D of true
patriotism. The E1 monument to Ivan Susanin was put up in
Kostroma in 1851. In 1967 a new monument was made. The impressive figure
of the national hero faces the Volga.
