Нефтегорск - небольшой город в Самарской области, расположенный между реками Съезжая и Ветлянка, в 102 километрах от областного центра. Площадь населенного пункта составляет 15 квадратных километров.
В 1958 году на месте современного города трестом "Куйбышевнефтеразведка" была заложена скважина №50.
Через год скважина с глубины 2-х километров стала выдавать 100 тонн нефти ежедневно. В это же время в поселке Ветлянке было образовано нефтепромысловое управление.
