Basketball is probably the best game for boys. This game has everything we need to fulfill our urge to compete and at the same time to keep our body fit.
I started playing basketball at school during PE and I realized that I liked it. Of course I couldn’t do some things in the beginning and we were just jumping around with the ball and tried to get the ball through the hoop. Sometime later it got better and everything we were doing started to look more like a game.
The our teacher Fedor Andreevich offered the most capable kids to come to the evening sessions. I was one of the lucky boys and then we all started to come to school twice a week to master our skills.
Fedor Andreevich turned out to be a great trainer. A year later our school team made some progress and we were able to participate in our first competition.
We lost that game but the score was not bad at all so it gave us hope that we could continue playing more. Another six months passed and finally we earned our first victory against a very strong team from a different school.
It was an incredible feeling! We were hugging each other and our trainer. I think that was the moment when I realized that basketball became something more important that just a hobby for me. It’s a state of mind!
Every morning I think about the practice. Sometimes I look forward to the end of the school so I can go and play. My parents are not very happy that I’m so hooked because it might impact my studying.
But I still have good grades so I hope I will find the right balance between studying and sport. Then I will always be able to play basketball with my friends!
