Rikki-Tikki-Tavi - a young mongoose, the main hero of the story. During a flood he has been carried away by water flow from parents. Waking up, he finds himself in the garden of the house where the British family lives. He has protected their son from a poisonous snake Kara (banded krait) and immediately becomes their friend. Soon he explores the house and garden and meets with their inhabitants: bird-tailor Darcy and his wife, musky rat Chuchundra — and encounters with cobras Nag and Nagini. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi discovers that Cobra want to kill the people which are living in the house. Later at first he comes into the fight with Nag, then with Nagini, and then destroys them unhatched cubs to save his friends.
