weighed more than 4 tonnes! it had long hair

Одно из самых знаменитых творений И.Е. Репина – картина «Бурлаки на Волге». Прежде чем написать это полотно, художник путешествовал сначала по Неве, а потом – и по Волге. Рождению шедевра предшествовало написание этюдов, посвящённых бурлакам, и их портретов. Знакомство живописца с людьми этой тяжёлой профессии состоялось в 1870 году, а спустя три года появилась на свет картина в её окончательном варианте.Первое впечатление от полотна – группа измождённых людей под жарким солнцем тянет баржу, преодолевая силу течения великой русской реки. В ватаге – одиннадцать человек, и каждый из них тянет лямку, врезающуюся в грудь и плечи. По изорванным одеждам становится понятно, что на такую работу человека может толкнуть только крайняя бедность. У некоторых бурлаков рубахи настолько ветхие, что лямка попросту протёрла их насквозь. Однако люди упорно продолжают тащить за канат судно.
