Семьи группы следует отличать от бытовых, которые могут включать в себя пансионеров и жильцов, имеющих общую жительства . Также следует отличать от родственных, поскольку родственную могут быть разделены на несколько домохозяйств. Часто семья не разграничена от брака пары, но суть семейной группы является родитель-ребенок отношений, которые могут отсутствовать из многих брачных пар.
