(A)  The sun was shining and the birds were singing as Mike was driving down the country lane. He was smiling because he was looking forward to the journey ahead. Mike enjoyed driving, especially when he went somewhere new. Then, suddenly, the engine began to make a strange noise and the car stopped dead in the middle of the road. Mike tried to start it, but nothing happened. He sighed, then got out of the car. "I thought you had gone to London today," he said. "No," replied Steve. "Unfortunately, I missed the train."
