New Year is a special holiday, which is loved and cherished by nearly every child in the world. Children are especially keen on this day as they get extra attention from the grown-ups and from Ded Moroz, of course. Each year I celebrate the beginning of the year with my family. It is well-known that New Year and Christmas are family-type holidays. That’s why we all gather at home in the evening for the festive meal. As the clock strikes twelve, grown-ups toast with a glass of champagne to the coming year. Then we leave the house and go straight towards the square to watch the colorful fireworks. The night of New Year is full of exciting developments. I especially like when there is snow outside, but that doesn’t happen every year in our region.

Dear Santa Claus,

My name`s Marina. I am 10. I live in Saint-Petersburg. I am good at drawing, dancing and singing. I go to school. My favourite subject is English. I am a good pupil. I get excellent marks at school.

My parents and I will certainly decorate X-mas treeand I will wait for the present under it .

Dear Santa do not forget about my sister Kate! She's 1 and she can't write letters. She likes playing with dolls and will be happy to get on a new one.

As for me, there is one thing I wish for Christmas. I want you to bring me a pretty little puppy, which I want to live in my house. I hope you have it. But my mommy is against the puppy, she says, that dogs must live out of doors, but not in the house.
