Когда один предмет находится  где-то, говорим There IS a Когда несколько , то There ARE. В щтрицательном предложении соответственноThere IS NOT (isn't - короткая форма) и There ARE NOT (aren't)
1) There isn't a sofa in the kitchen.2) There are some books... 3)There is a table in the kitchen. 4) There is a window in the kitchen.5) There are some cupboards in the kitchen. 6)There aren't any towels in the bedroom. 
SOME употребляем в значение немного, несколько только в утвердительных предложениях. ANY используем в вопросах и в отрицательных ответах. 6)- Нет никаких полотенец в спальне - фраза отрицательная.
