Hares live everywhere, beside Australia and Antarctica. There are about 30 different kinds of hares. They have a funny face because of their very long ears. The length of the ears is 9 to 15sm. So they hear better than smell or see. Their body is rather slim. Its length is about 50 to 70sm. The tail is very short. The weight is up to 7kg. They run better up the hills, then down, because their hind legs are developed better and are longer than the front legs. They can develop speed up to 70 km/h. Their colour depends on the season. They are usually grey or brownish but in winter some kinds turn white. They live lonely or in pairs somewhere in the holes or minks. Hares mostly feed on grass, leaves, some kinds of flowers and berries. In winter they eat the bark of the trees. Hares live about 6 to 10 years.
