1)Saransk is a small town in Russia. There is nothing special. When I come back to Saransk from another city  I do not want to live. Terrible architecture hurts the eyes. For example,  I can't look at a new post office without tears .
2)In Saransk there is nothing remarkable, an ordinary provincial town that is trying to get better. The only thing that you can accept is a Cathedral which was built near the shopping center, but nevertheless it looks pathetic too.
3)Saransk is located in the Volga basin at the confluence of the Saranka and Insar Rivers, about 630 kilometers east of Moscow. Population: 297,415 (2010 Census). The city has public transportation. It is represented by buses, trolleybuses and private buses. As for the roads, in some places they can be good, others bad.
4)The city is divided into three urban areas:
1) Lenin (104 676]), 2) October (99 552]),3) Proletarian (94 967).
In addition, there is an informal division into four major residential areas: Center, Khimmash, Svetotehstroy and Southwest. The downtown is more or less well maintained, but it has terrible architecture. Areas are as in the rest of Russia - full of gray five-story houses. Almost all the people live in these homes.
5)Usually people go for a walk in the Pushkin Park and the central square. In recent years, the Millennium Square gained  the popularity . Teenagers love to sit in shopping malls. The city has theaters and museums, but young people prefer to go to nightclubs, cafes, cinemas. The city recently built McDonald's. Now this is the main attraction of the city.
6)Work in the city is different.. Most people  work in the budget enterprises. I see a lot of janitors and photographers. The city has several universities and vocational schools. The coolest university in Saransk – N.P. Ogarev's Mordovian State University. There goes the urban elite. People say that there is a good education, I do not know.
7)I would not recommend the city and such cities in Russia to tourists  very much. There is nothing special. There are a couple of nice buildings in the center, and that's it. If tourists come, they usually look at the squares and go eat at McDonald's. Life here is boring as well as in other Russian cities. So I think the newcomers are not surprised and quickly become accustomed. It may seem that I say bad things about the city. But this is only my opinion. I love my city and its disadvantages.
