Juggling is my life: I’m a long jumper. I train four times a week and compete on Sundays. I love athletics, but my life isn’t easy and involves a lot of juggling. Schoolwork, training, family life, sleeping and socializing all need my attention and there are only 24 hours in a day! So what are my biggest problems?

A. : Most of my friends aren’t sporty so they don’t understand why I am. If we’re hanging out and I have to leave early because I’ve got an athletics meeting on the next day, they say ‘No, Sam, you mustn’t go!’

B. : An athlete can eat a lot and not get fat, but I must eat healthy food to support all the exercise (and brainwork) I do. I have to ignore the machines selling sweets and chocolate (not easy!) and make sure I eat enormous helpings of protein, vegetables and fruit.

C. : When I’m training hard I should go to bed early, or I quickly feel exhausted. This is a problem, as I’ve sometimes got loads of homework to do when I get home. Luckily, there’s Saturday!

D. : I have to use every free moment. I often revise in the car to and from training. I do homework after dinner, but I shouldn’t stay up late, so usually I finish my coursework at the weekend, when my friends are out having fun. I’m not surprised they think I’m crazy! I don’t have to do this, so why do I? Because I’m good at it, and I want to win a gold medal!

I study in a modern and well-designed Moscow college. It has got three floors. All the classrooms are well-equipped.On the ground floor there are clasrooms for the first-year students, workshops,a library with the reading room ,a canteen, a gym and a swimming pool. There  are special classrooms for every subject on the first and the second floors. Each room has a computer and a multimedia projection unit. My English classroom is on the second floor. It has three windows, a lot of flowers, a magnetic board and a computer,of course. We like to listen to the English texts, songs and watch English films at the lessons.I love my college.

Helen Keller is one of the most amazing people in the world. She was originally from Alabama in the US and she fell ill with a terrible disease that made her unable to see or hear. When Helen first became ill, she often screamed and behaved very badly. When she was 7 years old, Helen's family found a tutor for her, Ann Sullivan, who also had very poor eyesight. She was very strict with Helen and began to teach her to put words together with her hands, but Helen did not quite understand what they meant. So one morning she held Helen's hand under the water and wrote "W-A-T-E-R"on the other palm. That day, Helen learned 30 words! Then Helen learned to read Braille and type both in Braille and on a regular typewriter, and to understand what her teacher was saying, feeling her mouth when she spoke. At University, she began writing her first book, the Story of my life. She graduated from the University in 1904, becoming the first deaf-blind person to receive a degree. Helen has written many books and essays, lectured around the world, and worked hard to raise money and improve the living conditions of the blind.
