Dear Thank you for your letter. I’m glad to hear that everything is going well. Sorry I’m a bit late replying, but I’ve been really busy studying and visiting all the fascinating places of interest here.Last night my friends invited me to go to the theatre with them. You know I’m not a great theatre-lover but I couldn’t refuse the offer. There are so many remarkable theaters in London but, to my mind, the most notable is the old Vic theater. It is known for its productions of the plays of English poet and dramatist Shakespar. It includes many leading actors of the British theater and has a very old history because it was first opened in 1818. Besides, it is located in a very attractive London area. The Old Vic had its ups and downs and was rebuilt several times. However, it still remains one of the most popular theatres in London. The play we were going to watch was King Lear by W. Shakespeare. You know the plot of this great and terrible tragedy well, I suppose. Lear, king of Britain, decides in his old age to divide his kingdom among his three daughters. He asks how much they each love him. The two elder daughters, Goneril and Regan, overwhelm him with expressions of their love, but the youngest daughter simply says that she loves him, as a child should. Enraged at his youngest daughter’s reply, Lear drives her into exile and divides the kingdom between the other two. After receiving their share of the kingdom, the ungrateful daughters treat King Lear so cruelly that he flees to the youngest, who in the meantime has married the king of France. This daughter, Cordelia, returns to Britain with an army, defeats the wicked sisters, but she is murdered by them and dies in her father’s arms.Taken as a whole, King Lear is the story of the struggle between good and evil. It is often considered one of Shakespeare’s best poetic tragedies. Micahael Gamdom, a leading performer for the Old Vic, played the title part in King Lear. His work has received high acclaim. It was really an award-winning performance! So it was not surprising that he won some major British drama awards for his performance as King Lear. The other actors and actresses were also playing incredibly! The cast was fabulous! As for the music, it sounded superb and corresponded to the idea of the play. The costumes were gorgeous and the play itself was unforgettable. So I’ve got a great esthetical pleasure. That’s all from me now. Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon. Take care.
