Самое распространённое употребление Симпла это повторение, то что происходит постоянно. Например, зимой всегда идёт снег. It always snows in winter. А континиус обозначает действие, которое происходит вот ПРЯМО СЕЙЧАС НА ДАННЫЙ МОМЕНТ. Рассмотрим ещё пару примеров.
Он играет на пианино. Итак, если он играет на пианино прямо сейчас в данную минуту, то мы используем континиус. He is playing the piano. Но если мы имеем в виду его умение играть на пианино в целом, типа На чем он умеет играть? Он играет на пианино. То Симпл. He plays the piano.
Главное запомнить разницу
В ЦЕЛОМ В ОБЩЕМ ПОСТОЯННО - present simple
СЕЙЧАС В ДАННЫЙ МОМЕНТ - present continuous
