First of all, emotional intelligence is just our ability to handle our relationships with the others. I want you to know that emotions never make us do something we don't want to do. It's a simple fact - we are not animals, we all do the things that we want to do. If you think then that it was wrong, its only your subject point of view.
Of course, we must control our vibes, because not all of our tiny desires are for good. We are humans, we live every moment and feel sometimes really bad desire to do criminal things, express our emotions in a aggressive way to our close friends. People must respect someone else's private space.
If doctor Goleman were to visit my school, I would ask him about his life journey, what made him to choose to study such a difficult discipline like emotion sphere.
To sum up, we don't need to be ashamed because of our emotions. They make us feel relief and emotions are very important in our lives, they give us a way to feel all the colors of soul's beauty. Men also humans, they can and must enjoy all the specter of heart wanting.
